We Won The Cup 4-1.....

Hatch End Chess Club delivered a magnificent victory for its supporters at last night's Hillingdon & District Cup Final. Hatch End met an almost full strength Hayes Chess Club at their Uxbridge venue, Despite being outranked on every board Hatch End's victory was emphatic. I have included the national ranking below for each player. There are about 12,000 nationally ranked players in England. For example, David Okike is ranked the 200th best player in England on the current grading list, and Greg Breed is ranked the 2550th.

Hatch End won promotion to the top division of the league last year and expectations were not high. Our captain, Big Greg Breed, at the pre season pep talk told us that we should expect to play in the "Plate" consolation competition as we stood no chance of winning our first round (nice bit of reverse psychology Greg)

The Hillingdon & District Chess League is for chess clubs in the London Boroughs of Harrow, Hillingdon, and Ealing. It has three divisions and caters for all playing standards.

Hatch End Chess Club meet at the church hall at the corner of Sherington Ave and Rowlands Ave on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm from September to May. All players are welcome. Although we have no facilities for teaching juniors, established juniors that are regularly playing competitive chess are very welcome.
